Happy New Year – may there be challenges ahead – massage for cancer patients; educating healthcare professionals

Welcome to the new decade and the New Year – where did that decade go? Have you got any New Year resolutions? One of our projects for 2020 is the creation of a training video for healthcare professionals. Many an interview with cancer patients has been filmed. There is a common theme – can you guess? Make sure you enjoy life.

This may seem simple, but, for many, this proves impossible. I was speaking with a priest at a Christmas Eve party (yes, I know how to party); he was regaling me with themes from the deathbed (yes, I really know how to party). His reported themes correlated very closely with those told to me by another priest friend after her many years working at a hospice (New Year’s Resolution to party with Jennifer Young?).

What do many speak of at the end? Family, fun, holidays and, for a few, regrets. Many of our gorgeous interviewees are thankful to cancer for having been their wake up call, the thing that motivated them to change, either themselves, their circumstances or their outlook. These people are the most grown up I have ever encountered. Unbelievable maturity. Inspirational indeed.

If you are looking for a New Year’s Resolution; living a fulfilling life could be the one for you. I am not sure about mine yet – maybe to get out less?

Sending cheerful solitude
